11月4日 It’s pretty sad that there are so many “hidden” things in an OS that’s supposed to be so easy to use. I hadn’t thought about it before, but the sheer volume of them has surprised me. I knew of the existence of a lot of these shortcuts myself, but I’d never tried to think of them all at once until I started compiling this page. Now that I have many of them in one place (there’s more to be added - I think there always will be), I find myself wondering about ease of use . Anyway, enjoy. i've gotten really annoyed with all things Mac lately to build and repair them. Here is a list of some of the things I would like to remember myself. This is a collection of the (poorly documented) key-sequences that do things. It’s probably possible to find all this information within Apple’s Knowledge Base, but it’s currently scattered across multiple entries.
To use a keyboard shortcut, or key combination, you press a modifier key with a character key. For example, pressing the Command key (the key with a symbol) and the "c" key at the same time copies whatever is currently selected (text, graphics, and so forth) into the Clipboard. This is also known as the Command-C key combination (or keyboard shortcut).
A modifier key is a part of many key combinations. A modifier key alters the way other keystrokes or mouse clicks are interpreted by Mac OS X. Modifier keys include: Command, Control, Option, Shift, Caps Lock, and (on portable Macs) the fn key.
Here are the modifier key symbols you can see in Mac OS X menus:
(Command key) - Sometimes called "Apple key"; on Apple keyboards this key also has an Apple logo ( )
(Control key)
(Option key) - "Alt" may also appear on this key
(Shift key)
(Caps Lock) - Toggles Caps Lock on or off fn (Function key) - Located in the lower left corner of built-in keyboards on portable Macs

Six Truths of Life
1. You cannot touch all your top teeth with your tongue.
2. All idiots, after reading the first truth, will try it.
3. And discover that the first truth is a lie and feel superior because they can do it.
4. You're smiling now because you're an idiot.
5. You soon will forward this to another idiot.
6. There's still a stupid smile on your face.
I apologize about this.
I'm an idiot and I needed company ...
7月31日 A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up; She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose. Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word.
In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked,' Tell me what you see.'
'Carrots, eggs, and coffee,' she replied.
Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg. Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The daughter then asked, 'What does it mean, mother?'
Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.
'Which are you?' she asked her daughter. 'When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean? Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my Strength? Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart? Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you.
When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?
May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past; you can't go forward in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.
You might want to send this message to those people who mean something to you (I JUST DID); to those who have touched your life in one way or another; to those who make you smile when you really need it; to those who make you see the brighter side of things when you are really down; to those whose friendship you appreciate; to those who are so meaningful in your life.
May we all be COFFEE!!!!!!!
Hope you all Enjoyed!
Thanks. Mr. Joe

had eyes for each other, and finally they got married, and had a little
sweet potato, which they called ‘Yam’.
Of course, they wanted the best for Yam.
When it was time, they told her about the facts of life.
They warned her about
going out and getting half-baked, so she wouldn’t accidentally get
mashed, and get a bad name for herself like ‘Hot Potato’, and end up
with a bunch of Tater Tots.
Yam said, not to worry, that no Spud would get her into the sack and make a rotten potato out of her!
But on the other hand she wouldn’t stay home and become a Couch Potato either.
She would get plenty of exercise so as not to be too skinny like her Shoestring cousins.
When she went off to
Europe, Mr. and Mrs. Potato told Yam to watch out for the hard-boiled
guys from Ireland and the greasy guys from France called The French
Fries.
And when she went out west, to watch out for the Indians so she wouldn’t get scalloped.
Yam said she would stay on
the straight and narrow and wouldn’t associate with those high-class
Yukon Golds, or the ones from the other side of the tracks who
advertise their trade on all the trucks that say ‘Frito Lay’.
Mr. and Mrs. Potato sent Yam to Idaho P.U. (that’s Potato University) so that when she graduated she’d really be in the chips.
But in spite of all they did for her, one day Yam came home and announced she was going to marry Tom Brokaw.
Tom Brokaw?!
Mr. and Mrs. Potato were very upset.
They told Yam she couldn’t possibly marry Tom Brokaw because he’s just....

2月25日 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Linking Readers and Writers
through Shared Experiences
Santiago, Inc. Publishing
presents its latest book in the World Voice series: “Connected Communities”
(Westerly, RI, February 2009) – With his third book in the World Voice series (World Voice: Connected Communities) Joseph Santiago has
created a setting where the reader will be inspired
to reflect on what connects various peoples of the world.
In Joseph’s own words, “Too often, people today are depicted simply
as economic trends and statistics. People are far more complex than
numbers and there are times when we all feel that no
one is listening to us, and no one understands us. In sharing the sorrowful joy
and the joyful sorrow of our lives as engaged people we begin to see ourselves
in the lives of one another.”
World Voice: Connected
Communities is a cultural
exchange where writers from around the globe share their lives, passions,
poetry, stories, spiritual pilgrimages, and their own humanity, while becoming
part of the historical record of a burgeoning global society. The World Voice
book series has the goal of fostering communication and commonality of all
people across borders. This compelling collection of work illustrates
the commitment and spirit of collaboration that can bring individuals together to
improve the quality of one life at a time with the intention to touch the whole
world.
World Voice: Connected Communities began as an independent thanatology study in China and
it quickly grew from the life that its many authors have breathed into it. Thanatology is the study of how we deal with
loss in our lives and how we refocus back on what matters to us in life. One unique element to World Voice: Connected Communities is that it invites readers to
become writers by responding to what moves them and thereby continuing an
honest global conversation that has a shot at being published and includes the
entire world.
We at Santiago Inc.
invite you to share your voice and leave your mark by
submitting your piece for the next volume. “We are a community within your
community. In sharing what truly matters to you, you will learn that you
are not alone.” See contact information below.

The
California Highway Patrol in the Los Angeles area recently found some
amusement filling out accident reports in a series of car accidents. As
it turned out, drivers were losing control and running into other
vehicles upon seeing a giant woman's pubis displayed on the front part
of an oncoming car.
The
CHP started frantically looking for the dangerous pubis and came upon
the tracks of a young hairdresser named Nelly Node. Nelly's passion for
the arts made the young woman photograph her own crotch and put the
zoomed picture on her Volkswagen Beetle. Nelly decided to use such a
shameless method to prepare her college course work in which she
analyzed the art of design. The witty student's idea worked for the
college professors. She
was proudly driving her 'pubic beetle' until the CHP arrested the
woman. The court ruled that Nelly's car was creating a dangerous
situation on the roads. She had to paint over her car's hood. Here's a picture of her VW before she had to repaint it.

You don't suppose the other drivers were driving along saying 'Twat was that??' And was she charged with pubic indecency? It's a good thing she was picked up by the fuzz...
I'll stop the cracks now.
Hope you’ve enjoyed! :>

We all need to read this one over and over until it becomes part of who we are! |
|
|
On one woman's tombstone she said she wanted this epitaph:
"Tried everything twice.loved it both times!"
2. Keep only cheerful friends.
The grouches pull you down.
(Keep this in mind if you are one of those grouches!)
Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever.
Never let the brain get idle. 'An idle mind is the devil's workshop.'
And the devil's name is Alzheimer's!
4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud.
Laugh until you gasp for breath.
And if you have a friend who makes you laugh,
spend lots and lots of time with HIM/HER.

6. The tears happen:
Endure, grieve, and move on.
The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves.
LIVE while you are alive.
7. Surround yourself with what you love:
Whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever.
Your home is your refuge.
If it is good, preserve it.
If it is unstable, improve it.
If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
9. Don't take guilt trips.
Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county,
to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
I love you, my special friend.

11. Forgive now those who made you cry. You might not get a second chance.
And if you don't send this to at least 4 people - who cares?
But do share this with someone.

Remember! Lost time can never be found.
Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
1月25日 Astronomers Select Top Ten Most Amazing Pictures Taken by Hubble Space Telescope in Last 16 Years '...they illustrate that our universe is not only deeply strange, but also almost impossibly beautiful.'
After
correcting an initial problem with the lens, when the Hubble Space
Telescope was first launched in 1990, the floating astro-observatory
began to relay back to Earth, incredible snapshots of the 'final frontier' it was perusing. Recently, astronauts voted on the top photographs taken by Hubble, in its 16-year journey so far. Remarking in the article from the Daily Mail, reporter Michael Hanlon says the photos 'illustrate that our universe is not only deeply strange, but also almost impossibly beautiful.' Enjoy! Hubble Telescope's top ten greatest space photographs. Awesome!!! The Sombrero Galaxy - 28 million light years from Earth - was voted best picture taken by the Hubble telescope. The dimensions of the galaxy, officially called M104, are as spectacular as its appearance It has 800 billion suns and is 50,000 light years across. The
Ant Nebula, a cloud of dust and gas whose technical name is Mz3,
resembles an ant when observed using ground-based telescopes... The
nebula lies within our galaxy between 3,000 and 6,000 light years from
Earth. In
third place is Nebula NGC 2392, called 'Eskimo' because it looks like a
face surround ed by a furry hood. The hood is, in fact, a ring of
comet-shaped objects flying away from a dying star. Eskimo is 5,000
light years from Earth. At four is the Cat's Eye Nebula. The
Hourglass Nebula, 8,000 light years away, has a 'pinched-in-the-middle'
look because the winds that shape it are weaker at the centre. In
sixth place is the Cone Nebula. The part pictured here is 2.5 light
years in length (the equivalent of 23 million return trips to the Moon). The
Perfect Storm, a small region in the Swan Nebula, 5,500 light years
away, described as 'a bubbly ocean of hydrogen and small amounts of
oxygen, sulphur and other elements'. Starry
Night, so named because it reminded astronomers of the Van Gogh
painting. It is a halo of light around a star in the Milky Way. The
glowering eyes from 114 million light years away are the swirling cores
of two merging galaxies called NGC 2207 and IC 2163 in the distant
Canis Major constellation. The Trifid Nebula. A 'stellar nursery', 9,000 light years from here, it is where new stars are being born. ............................ The end....you have just seen the Top 10 Hubbel Pictures!!! Share with someone!!!!!
Hope you’ve enjoyed! :>

published?
I am looking for photos, audio recordings, video, opinions,

work. The photos and stories will have a chance of being used in My Post Bush
American Life, or The World Voice series of books.
My Bush American Life is a personal bibliotherapy where I
record life and my thoughts as it happens. I intend it to be an entertaining
approach to adding to the historical record of the times as well as an
opportunity to look through my younger self’s eyes. I welcome listener collaboration
as we go through this process and life together. This project is an invitation
to step into another’s shoes and be a part of this life by association. Your
purchase makes it possible to continue work that touches people’s lives. Please
check out the World Voice Connected Communities for more info. www.Santiago-inc.com
The current World Voice book will be available worldwide in
approx 4 weeks, but you can grab your advanced copy of it at www.Santiago-inc.com. The Next World
Voice book is accepting submissions but it has not officially announced the
call for papers.
If you haven’t heard of the World Voice project before here
is your chance to learn about the current volume World Voice: Connected
Communities.
There are times when we all feel that no one is listening to
us, and no one understands us. In sharing the sorrowful joy and the joyful
sorrow of our lives as engaged people we begin to see ourselves in the lives of
one another. World Voice: Connected Communities is a snap shot of a small space
in time and a select few people that now know "We" are listening.
Writers from around the globe share their lives, passions, poetry, stories,
spiritual pilgrimages, and their own humanity, while becoming part of the
historical record of a burgeoning global society. The World Voice book series
has the goal of fostering communication and commonality of all people across
borders. In supporting the World Voice series you are making a difference in
people’s lives by taking part in creating a community where neighbors might
become friends, and all people can connect meaningfully to improve the quality
of one life at a time with the intention to touch the whole world. So take your
place, take a chance, and leave your mark.
If you’re interested in sharing your photos and your voice
please send an email to balanceheart@hotmail.com
and put in the title line “Info on Sharing my Photo/Voice”
Please attach the materials you would like to send and you
will receive a release from us. We will not use your submissions unless you
sign the release! At that point we will let you know if your submissions can be
used and published in one or more projects. If your sending photos you may wish
to consider sending along a text file with them as the audience will not have
access to the release form. Good luck and I look forward to meeting you. 1月12日 Hillel to bring the Afro-Semitic Experience to URI, Jan. 28-29, 2009Media Contact:
Jhodi Redlich, 401-874-2116 KINGSTON,
RI -- January 9, 2009 -- In celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. week
at the University of Rhode Island, Hillel - The Jewish Student Center
will present The Afro-Semitic Experience, a jazz ensemble of Jewish and
African-American musicians, in a two-day residency, January 28-29,
2009. This presentation is in association with the URI Multicultural
Center and the Jazz Music Program.
The Afro-Semitic Experience will perform on Thursday, Jan. 29 at
7:30 p.m. at the URI Fine Arts Concert Hall, 105 Upper College Rd.,
Kingston, RI. Tickets are $3 for students and $10 for the general
public and may be reserved by calling 401-874-2740 or emailing
hillel@urihillel.org. Tickets may also be purchased at the door by cash
or check.
In addition, members of The Afro-Semitic Experience will conduct a
participatory workshop on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the URI
Multicultural Center Hardge Forum, 74 Lower College Rd., Kingston, RI.
The workshop is free and open to the public.
Ensemble members also will be guest artists at the Music
Department Convocation on Thursday, Jan. 29 from 12:30 - 2 p.m. in the
Fine Arts Concert Hall. The Convocation is free and open to the public.
The Afro-Semitic Experience is dedicated to preserving, promoting
and expanding the rich cultural and musical heritage of the Jewish and
African diaspora. The band presents interpretations of music from the
rich traditions of Gospel, Klezmer, Yoruban drumming, Nigunim (wordless
Jewish chants), Spirituals, Funk and Swing. They transform the concert
hall into a "whoopin', hollerin', testifyin' celebration of
multicultural soul music." In concert, the band frames its music by
telling stories about what the pieces mean, how they relate to
individual members of a community, and how they reflect upon the
relations between Blacks and Jews both as ethnic and religious
communities.
The Thursday night concert will feature all six members of the
band. At the Wednesday night workshop, David Chevan and Warren Byrd
lead a discussion about race and interfaith dialogue and how music can
serve as a bridge builder. Baba David Coleman will distribute a variety
of African percussion instruments and engage the audience in a massive
jam session while teaching them traditional rhythmic patterns and
techniques. At the Convocation on Thursday afternoon, Chevan, Byrd and
Coleman will teach the process of creating inter-cultural music as well
as infusing spirituality into performance.
"I think it is wonderful that through this concert URI will play host
to the sweet aspects of Black and Jewish cultures," said Robert
Weisbord, URI professor of history and author of Bittersweet Encounter:
The Afro-American and the American Jew.
Members of The Afro-Semitic Experience
Will Bartlett has thirty years of experience as a professional woodwind
performer and educator. He has led saxophone master classes and
workshops on jazz improvisation, jazz theory, arranging and composing
for the small ensemble, and klezmer clarinet interpretation.
Warren Byrd is a pianist, composer, and vocalist with an extensive and
eclectic background. He has led workshops in Jazz Composition and
Theory, Jazz Piano, as well as Gospel Arranging and Composition, and
Vocal Training.
Dr. David Chevan holds a Ph.D. in Musicology and specializes in the
history and performance of jazz and Jewish music. He has experience
teaching workshops on world and jazz improvisation, Jewish music,
klezmer ensemble performance, music and spirituality.
Baba David Coleman is a Yoruban priest, African drummer, and African
drum builder. He has studied with Baba Femi and continues to be a
disciple of the legendary Chief Bey, the oldest African-American hand
drummer.
Babafemi Alvin Carter, Jr. plays drum set, Afro-Caribbean percussion,
and the drums of the West Afrikan djembe drum ensemble. He has
developed an innovative and exciting workshop for merging
Afro-Caribbean, West Afrikan and Klezmer drum styles with contemporary
percussion patterns.
Stacy Phillips is a Grammy winning multi-stylistic steel guitarist and
violinist. His Klezmer Collection was the first book of accurate
transcriptions of early klezmer music.
The residency of the Afro-Semitic Experience is funded in part by the
Jewish Federation of Rhode Island and the New England States Touring
program of the New England Foundation for the Arts, made possible with
funding from the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring
Program and the six New England state arts agencies, URI College of
Arts and Sciences and the URI Student Senate. The events are
co-sponsored by the URI Student Affairs Diversity Committee, the URI
Chaplains Association, the Bureau of Jewish Education and the Rhode
Island Chapter of Hadassah.
For more information, please contact Amy Olson, Executive Director of URI Hillel at 401-874-2740 or amyolson@mail.uri.edu.
Hillel at the University of Rhode Island seeks to create artistic
opportunities that illuminate the Jewish experience as well as build
cultural bridges among campus groups of varying backgrounds. 1月9日

  A Keeper
Their
marriage was good, their dreams focused. Their best friends lived
barely a wave away. I can see them now, Dad in trousers, work shirt and
a hat; and Mom in a house dress, lawn mower in one hand, and dish-towel
in the other. It was the time for fixing things: a curtain rod, the
kitchen radio, screen door, the oven door, the hem in a dress. Things
we keep.

It
was a way of life, and sometimes it made me crazy. All that re-fixing,
re-heating leftovers, renewing; I wanted just once to be wasteful.
Waste meant affluence. Throwing things away meant you knew there'd
always be more.

But
when my mother died, and I was standing in that clear morning light in
the warmth of the hospital room, I was struck with the pain of learning
that sometimes there isn't any more.
Sometimes,
what we care about most gets all used up and goes away...never to
return.. So... While we have it, it's best we love it.... And care for
it... And fix it when it's broken.... And heal it when it's sick.
  This
is true: For marriage... And old cars... And children with bad report
cards. Dogs and cats with bad hips... And aging parents... And
grandparents. We keep them because they are worth it, because we are
worth it. Some things we keep, like a best friend who moved away or a
classmate we grew up with.
There are just some things that make life important, Like people we know who are special... And so, we keep them close!

A Different Christmas Poem
A Different Christmas Poem
The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light, I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight. My wife was asleep, her head on my chest, My daughter beside me, angelic in rest. Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white, Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling light s in the tree I believe, Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve. My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep, Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep. In perfect contentment, or so it would seem, So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.
The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near, But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear. Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow. My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear, And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night, A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight. A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old, Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold. Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled, Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.
'What are you doing?' I asked without fear, 'Come in this moment, it's freezing out here! Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve, You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!' For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift, Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts.
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light Then he sighed and he said 'Its really all right, I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night.' 'It's my duty to stand at the front of the line, That separates you from the darkest of times.&nbs p;
No one had to ask or beg or implore me, I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me. My Gramps died at ' Pearl on a day in December,' Then he sighed, 'That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers..' My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ' Nam ', And now it is my turn and so, here I am.
I've not seen my own son in more than a while, But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile. Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag, The red, white, and blue... an American flag. I can live through the cold and the being alone, Away from my family, my house and my home.
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet, I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat. I can carry the weight of killing another, Or lay down my life with my sister and brother.. Who stand at the front against any and all, To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall.'
' So go back inside,' he said, 'harbor no fright, Your family is waiting and I'll be all right.' 'But isn't there something I can do, at the least, 'Give you money,' I asked, 'or prepare you a feast? It seems all too little for all that you've done, For being away from your wife and your son.'
Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret, 'Just tell us you love us, and never forget. To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone, To stand your own watch, no matter how long. For when we come home, either standing or dead, To know you remember we fought and we bled. Is payment enough, and with that we will trust, That we mattered to you as you mattered to us.'
PLEASE, would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.

never have any idea. someone who has never seen my face or felt my love
or heard my heart pound listened to me and all those people didnt. you
warm my heart. and awaken my soul.(or whats left of it) and for that i
thank you and you from every core inside me i thank
you...and...you probably already know it....but you are an amazing very
nice person and i havent even met you yet and that says a lot. but you
will never understand the warmth and appreciation i hold for you in my
